WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK 💗
Tunes and Blooms will be rockin’ at the Cincinnati Zoo on Thursday evening. This May date is to make up for early April rain out dates. Scheduled bands for this week include The Tillers and Rucca. Admission to the Cincinnati Zoo is free on May 2 (starting at 5pm) for Tunes and Blooms. Parking is $10. The entire zoo is not open for Tunes and Blooms but you will be able to walk around and see some the animals. This event is weather dependent. The music starts at 6pm but you can get into the zoo starting at 5pm.
The University of Cincinnati | Libraries Preservation Lab will host an Open House on Thursday, 2-4pm. Located in the 300 Level of the Walter C. Langsam Library, the Preservation Lab’s Open House theme is “Back to Basics” and will feature samples of their work, opportunities to meet and greet preservation colleagues and cookies!
Blooms and Berries Farm Market hosts a Porch Pots Container Design Workshop on Tuesday and Thursday of this week, April 30 (5-8pm) and May 2 (5-8pm). Tickets required. This is a make and take workshop designed to help you create a gorgeous and abundant container that brings the perfect pop to your balcony, entrance or patio. They'll walk you through the steps as you learn the design basics, planting process, plant care and maintenance. They'll share their tips and secrets for getting the most out of your flowers.
Head to Fibonacci Brewing on Thursday for Fib Farm Class: Backyard Composting 101, 6-7:30pm. This free class is for those who are curious, just getting started, or for those who are already composting but would like a refresher and extra tips! They will cover the purpose and benefits of composting, how to get started, what materials can be composted, how to maintain your compost throughout the year, and how to use your finished compost. There will also be time to answer all questions!
Broadway in Cincinnati’s SIX The Musical continues this week (ends May 5). From Tudor Queens to Pop Icons, the SIX wives of Henry VIII take the microphone to remix five hundred years of historical heartbreak into a Euphoric Celebration of 21st-century girl power.

Sign ups open on Saturday at noon for Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum’s June Weekend Walkabout. The tour topic for June is Abolitionists of Cincinnati. You’ll visit the monuments of several prominent Abolitionists and Anti-slavery supporters and learn about the men and women of our area who were dedicated to Abolition. The group includes Conductors on the Underground Railroad, writers, lawyers and judges, publishers, politicians, generals, and journalists.
The Vlasic Classic Pickleball Tournament will take place at the Sawyer Point Pickleball Facility, May 9-12. Amateurs of all ages and skill levels will compete alongside the sport’s elite professionals in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events. Tickets required.
Benken Garden Center has a number of fun workshops planned for May. Topics cover boxwood care, herbs 101, mimosas with mom, and more. Tickets required.

Lytle Park recently celebrated its Grand Re-opening. Residing where Fort Washington was built in 1789, Lytle Park sits in one of the oldest parts of the city and became a park in 1907. The wonderfully reinvigorated urban park includes a new hardscape with several plazas and brick walkways, a decorative fountain, a running track, new landscaping, lighting, bocce ball court, playground, and benches. Go see this beautiful new park and enjoy its neighbor, The Taft Museum of Art, while you’re there!

Explore educational exhibits, enjoy family-friendly activities, and shop unique spring crafts from local artists. The Butterfly Show at the Krohn Conservatory opens for the season on May 14.

Deerfield Twp. is hosting Safety Town, coordinated by Deerfield Fire Rescue with assistance from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office. The events are in June and limited to kids ages 4-6 years old. Registration for residents begins May 1 and non-residents can register beginning May 15.
