Opening Day is upon us! Don your Reds gear and head downtown for a celebration of all things baseball, spring, and our hometown!

Highlights For This Week:

Monday, March 25: There’s a Full Moon Hike happening at Woodland Mound starting at 8pm. Meet at the Seasongood Nature Center for this free event. For more info, click the link above and then click on the March 25 date on the calendar.

Tuesday, March 26: Head to the Clifton branch of the Cincinnati Public Library for “The Bone Doctor’s Concerto” with author Alvin Crawford, M.D., 6-7:30pm. Hear the story of one of Cincinnati’s most influential leaders in medicine. In 1960, Crawford began his ground-breaking medical career with his entrance into the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, becoming the school’s first African American student. After completing his medical training and traveling the world as a surgeon for the Navy, Crawford found himself in Cincinnati, where he established the Comprehensive Pediatric Orthopedic Clinic at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, the first in the region. Enjoy a presentation by Dr. Crawford of his autobiography, The Bone Doctor's Concerto, a personal account of segregation, integration, ambition, hard work, and taking risks.

Wednesday, March 27: Cincinnati Observatory is hosting an Eclipse Viewing 101 Class starting at 4pm. Join in to learn how to safely view the Eclipse using basic items from around your house; no telescope required! They will help you experience this once-in-a-lifetime event from anywhere in the tristate. Great for all ages. Space is limited. The program will include solar viewing (weather permitting) and a tour of the Observatory. Tickets required.

Thursday, March 28: It’s Opening Day! The parade starts at noon. Check out our Opening Day Guide here.

Mark Your Calendar:

The Easter Celebration (Saturday, March 30) at the Cincinnati Zoo will make you feel like a kid again! The celebration will feature animals receiving Easter-themed enrichment throughout the day and Treat Stations through the Zoo. To help the Zoo go green, please bring your own treat bag. Children will also have the opportunity to meet the Easter Bunny in the Zoo Gift Shop from 12pm-5pm.

Have you been to Trammel Fossil Park? You can join geology graduate students from the University of Cincinnati and other fossil loving groups for Geology in the Park and explore the hillside of Trammel Fossil Park on April 6, 11am-1pm. This event is totally free and open to everyone. Bad weather will likely cancel this outdoor event so be sure to check if the weather looks ominous.

Taste new favorites and enjoy some fine wines at Ault Vines Fine Wines, happening on April 19, starting at 6pm. Ault Park will be home to this ticketed event and the wine will be curated from one of my favorite wine shops, The Wine Merchant. They’ll have live music by Jeff Henry and a local food truck too. Tickets required (and you’ll save a few bucks if you purchase early).

Get craft at the Cincinnati Art Museum when you sign up for a Paper Succulents Making workshop by Bess Paper Goods. Create Paper Succulents from European crepe paper in a variety of colors in the Great Hall. Refreshments will be provided. Tickets required.

Get ready for the Solar Eclipse with a family program at the Oak Ridge Lodge / Mt. Airy Forest. Cincinnati Observatory will show you how to get the most from this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with fun activities and enlightening images.  See why eclipses happen, why eclipses on our planet are special, and why the April 8th eclipse will be different.  You'll also practice safely viewing the sun and get tips for eclipse success. Space is limited and reservations are required. The event happens on March 29, 2:30-4pm.

Cincinnati Nature Center is hosting a “Make and Take: Grow Oyster Mushrooms” class on April 7, 6-8pm. This is a program for adults and will focus on the art of growing oyster mushrooms at home, outdoors, using a simple 5-gallon bucket and straw. Uncover the amazing health benefits of mushrooms and experience the mental rewards of cultivating one of the most ancient foods on the planet. You’ll leave with your own inoculated bucket and instructions to allow you to grow your own oyster mushrooms. Registration required.

Sign up for a free family show at Memorial Hall - The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe with Cincinnati’s Playhouse in the Park Touring Company, happening April 13 at 2pm. Tickets are free but you do need to reserve your tickets so don’t delay!

We recently had the opportunity to have dinner at Alara, Cincinnati’s newest upscale restaurant. This beautiful spot is the newest creation from the folks at Looking Glass Restaurants (Tahona, Emery, Clyborne, Toast and Berry).

The restaurant will celebrate its grand opening on Monday, March 25. You’ll find it at 5410 Medpace Way at Madison Square (Madisonville).
