Sunday March 31

Hello Cincinnati!

Ain’t no April foolin’ around here! Starting this week… we are going back to a daily newsletter!

You can now expect to get our daily news each day (Sunday - Thursday) at 8pm.

I already had a weekly Sunday night newsletter ready to go so let’s just roll with that format for today. Tomorrow will start our daily format.

Old newsletter subscribers will likely be happy to see the daily format return. Newcomers: I hope you’ll give it a week or so to see if it’s for you. The daily newsletter includes all the goods you need to rock your tomorrow!

Highlights For This Week:

Monday, April 1: Join Cincy Hikes at Mt. Airy Forest for a 3 mile hike. Meet at Everybody’s Treehouse at 6:30pm sharp. The Monday Mt. Airy Hikes will be moderately paced. Trails can be muddy with exposed roots and rocks so appropriate footwear is a must. Please try to be prompt as they will hit the trails as close to 6:30 as possible. They will hike in light rain but not thunder, lightning, heavy rains or high wind.

Tuesday, April 2: Prasco Park’s Opening Day is April 2. They’ll kick off the season with the start of the Joe Nuxhall Classic, an annual celebration of college baseball, community spirit, and the legacy of a Cincinnati legend. Two games will be played on Tuesday: Wright State takes on Miami U. at 2pm and Xavier vs. UC starts at 6pm. It’s free cheese coney night too! Each guest will receive a free cheese coney (up to 2 per person while supplies last), starting at 5 PM.

Wednesday, April 3: The season’s first Workout on the Green is happening at Washington Park. They’ll have Dance Fitness Cardio & Yin Yogam Flow from 5-5:45pm and then Zumba from 6-7pm. Stick around afterwards for Blues and Brews with live music from Jimmy D. Rogers.

Thursday, April 4: It’s the first week for Tunes and Blooms at The Cincinnati Zoo. Enjoy live music and free zoo admission after 5pm. Get the details over on our site - https://365cincinnati.com/tunes-and-blooms-at-the-cincinnati-zoo/

Have you ever heard of a Volksmarch? Germania Society has their Spring Volksmarch coming up on April 27. A volksmarch is a leisurely walk that promotes good health and positive relationships with fellow walkers. The walk is non-competitive (not a race) and will be featuring a 5K and 10K hike. Dogs are also welcome to accompany the participants as they walk through the park. Entry fee of $3 per person.

The Lloyd Library and Museum is hosting “Walking With Wildflowers at Buttercup Valley”, April 13, 10-11:30am, at Parker Woods Montessori School. This 25-acre forest, known as Buttercup Valley Nature Preserve, is home to numerous 100’ tall trees that are nearly 200 years old. Beneath these great beings lives an exquisite plant community of wildflowers. These flowers, collectively known as “Spring Ephemerals”, bloom briefly in the spring before going dormant again as they become shaded out in the summer and they require mature, undisturbed forests like Buttercup Valley to exist. Join Naturalist, Horticulturist, and former President of Northside Greenspace Inc., Greg Torres for a guided hike through this woods to learn more about this these unique flowers living in a very special forest.

Sharon Woods will undergo some major construction starting in April - the renewal of Sharon Lake. The 35-acre lake will begin draining on or about April 2, 2024. After the water has been removed, Great Parks will reposition sediment to optimize depth and create new wetland habitat, add rock weirs to control future siltation, and build a new wetland boardwalk, fishing pier and docks. The lake will remain closed during construction, which is expected to continue through mid-2025. More details here (link goes to Great Parks site).
